Did Frank Ocean Just Reveal Plans for a Drake Collab?

Two of modern music’s most popular superstars might have a collaboration on the way. As NME reports, speculations and rumors regarding a potential Drake and Frank

Ocean track are running wild following a cryptic Tumblr post from Frank Ocean.  “Cuz the 6 has the aux cable,” reads the caption of a newly-posted selfie published to Frank Ocean’s official Tumblr earlier today. While the internet has yet to pick up on any official, concrete details regarding a joint record from Frank Ocean and Drake, a collaboration from those two would serve as the first of its kind from the pair. Or, as media outlets such as Dazed have noted, Frank’s post could have been referring to an iPhone cable. You can check out the post in question above.
Over the weekend, Frank Ocean made headlines with the release of his first official solo single since last year’s frenzy, “Chanel.” In recent weeks, the acclaimed singer-songwriter has also popped up on a single with Calvin Harris and Migos and launched a new Beats 1 program.

Watch A$AP Rocky’s ‘Money Man’ Short Film Featuring A$AP Mob and Skepta

Just last week A$AP Rocky let the world know that their latest music project, Cozy Tapes Vol. 1 had been finished. The project involves several members of the A$AP Mob and had originally been initiated by the late A$AP Yams, who suddenly passed away in early 2015.
With no release date for Cozy Tapes officially communicated yet, we cannot be far away from it anymore, as we can present today the below short film “Money Man,” which features two tracks from the new album.

You can watch the short now here on the Red Bull website.
The intense 12-minute short film was directed by AWGE, A$AP Rocky’s creative collective. It tells the tragic story of Rina, a character trapped in a world of crime and misfortune. It is soundtracked by the song “Money Man” featuring A$AP Nast and a second song featuring Skepta. Both songs were recorded at Red Bull Studios London.

Ab-Soul Unveils a Dark Video for "Huey Knew"

Image result for ab so

Late last month, TDE artist Ab-Soul breathed new life into his body of work with a new single titled “Huey Knew.” In addition to Ab-Soul’s sharp showcase of lyricism, the track also debuted some venomous, acrobatic bars from rising New Jersey talent Da$h. Just in time for the weekend, the Willie B-produced record receives its official, dark video. The vignette for Ab-Soul’s “Huey Knew” does not feature an appearance from song collaborator Da$h. Additionally, it comes to us courtesy of TDE’s recent go-to directors APLUS Filmz. While the single hasn’t been utilized as a way to officially introduce Ab-Soul’s anticipated next studio album, with the promotional campaign for Isaiah Rashad’s LP finished, Ab-Soul might be the next rapper that Top Dawg puts the spotlight on. Watch the video above and let us know if you’re excited for the artist’s new project to come out.

Kanye Turns to His "Saint Pablo" Tour to Help Overcome the Criticism Surrounding YEEZY Season 4

Kanye West YEEZY Season 4 Criticism Saint Pablo concerts fashion music

A day after unveiling his latest clothing collection, YEEZY Season 4, in New York City, Kanye West continued his “Saint Pablo” Tour with a stop in Washington, D.C. In typical Yeezus fashion, the Windy City polymath took some time to talk to his fans, addressing the criticism that surrounds his Wednesday fashion show. “I needed to rehear the lyrics that I was saying or what I was feeling when I wrote these songs and had to overcome these certain controversies and whatever happens in life.” Followed by some lines from “Black Skinhead,” ‘Ye then compared himself to LeBron and the commentary that plagued the Cavs forward after losing the 2015 NBA Finals. Kanye picked up his artist-to-admirer conversation earlier today on Twitter, thanking both his supporters and critics for their “time, insight and feelings.”
While the verdict is still out on YEEZY Season 4, it’s comforting to know that Kanye still finds solace in his music. We just hope some new sounds will come of it.

In the above short video, titled “B*tch U Broke My Heart,” the two are overlooking the city of Los Angeles with McKnight donning all white as he plays the piano, and La Flame letting his flannel blow in the wind alongside a few caged doves. It’s a comedic ode to McKnight’s classic R&B ballads, but we were hoping for a real collaboration.

Controversial Former N.W.A Manager Jerry Heller Dies at 75

N.W.A Manager Jerry Heller Dead at 75

It was recently confirmed by a family member, that veteran music manager Jerry Heller has died from a heart attack at age 75. While widely known as the former N.W.A manager, Heller had also represented the likes of Marvin Gaye and helped promote tours for artists such as Elton John and Pink Floyd. But it wasn’t until the ’80s that Heller started managing the influential rap group N.W.A and launched the record label Ruthless Records with Eazy-E.
N.W.A would eventually disband due to financial disputes Heller had with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. This was also highlighted in the film Straight Outta Compton, but Heller has always denied any financial malfeasance during his managerial tenure with the group. Feeling that he was misrepresented in the film, he in return filed a defamation lawsuit against NBC Universal, as well as Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and the estate of Eazy-E.

Meet the 24-Year-Old Director Behind Kanye West's "Fade" Video

Kanye West Fade Music Video Teyana Taylor Iman Shumpert

When Kanye West took the stage at last weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards, the rapper decided to debut his video for “Fade.” Little did anyone know, the video was only finished shortly before its premiere. The New York Times spoke to the video’s director, Eli Russell Linnetz — a University of Southern California graduate and former assistant to David Mamet — on how he pulled off the feat and how he got in with Kanye. Apparently, the young creative is in the midst of a “one-year artist residency with Kanye” and was also involved with “Famous,” although “Fade” was his biggest project yet. Read on to learn about the director behind the steamy Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert-featured flick.
Tell me about your background.
When I was 15, I started working for David [Mamet], assisting him on Broadway. [We met] through temple. We ended up going to New York together and spending a lot of time in the theater on his show “Race.” That’s when I met Kanye. He was working on “Watch the Throne.” I was 17 at the time, and we ended up talking.
How does a 17-year-old meet the biggest rapper in the world?
Kanye had tweeted about starting [his creative agency] DONDA, and a friend of mine had emailed him. Kanye actually responded. I was brought into the mix, and we started working on a bunch of writing projects together. It sounds like I’m skipping some steps, but that’s kind of how it was — pretty surreal. Then I went back to U.S.C. and studied screenwriting. For my scholarship, I was working in the costume department, sewing clothing. So I was gathering these skills that ended up being perfect for a Kanye West environment.
What is it about Kanye that he can bring a teenager into his orbit and work as equals?
If someone is willing to put in the work and execute and deliver, he doesn’t think about their age.
“Flashdance” is the most obvious reference point for “Fade,” but are there others?
“Flashdance” is just so iconic that it’s hard to move away from that, but the Ohio Players’ album covers were our starting point. Some people picked up on the Grace Jones boxing images by Jean-Paul Goude. I pulled a lot of references from ’70s and ’80s porn, just on Pornhub. That was less about the imagery and more about the texture of the skin, the oiliness. There’s John Carpenter films, “The Fly.” There’s also things like “Dancing With the Stars,” the Olympics and the N.B.A. championship. I brought on Guillermo Navarro, who shot “Jackie Brown,” as the cinematographer. Renelou Padora did the styling, and then Tino [Schaedler] did the art direction. He’s done everything from “Harry Potter” movies to Daft Punk videos. It all seems fragmented, and then it’s all boiled down to this one image because Kanye is so good about overseeing the people involved.
Kanye seems to be into displays of real love on screen, with “Bound 2” and now Teyana and Iman. Did he discuss how he wanted to frame their family?
That was what made him decide to use Teyana in the first place. They had been talking, and he and Kim have that relationship as well — they’re so in love and best friends. That was the most important thing for me, to show this couple in a powerful way. Especially Teyana. She became this powerhouse mother figure — a woman who just had a baby a few months ago. Iman almost becomes a prop — usually it’s the other way around.
What was Kanye’s role during the shoot?
He was there the whole time, super involved with every detail. Every prop you see onscreen, we’re making those decisions together. He and I had many phone conversations — “This is the punching bag I like; which do you like?” “Do you like the weights from 1976 or 1981 better?”
What role did you guys have in the choreography by Jae Blaze, Derek Watkins and Guapo?
Teyana just kept looking at me in the eye and saying, “I got this.” It was scary, but she was so convincing. When Kanye originally emailed me, I was like, “Ugh, I don’t want this to be a random video of a girl dancing.” The reason I got inspired was when I met with Teyana, she was sitting there eating Wingstop. I was like, “Who is this amazing girl?”
Tell me about shooting the shower scene.
Teyana and Iman were just so in love and down for whatever. [Their baby] Junie was crying, they were naked, the sheep were pooping and peeing everywhere. But they were really game. I had to tell them to be more aggressive in the shower, because they were just so sensual with each other.
Then there’s the final biblical shot with the lioness face and tail. What’s that about?
Kanye and I had worked a lot with prosthetics, with people who work for Rick Baker, who did some of the most famous effects of our time. We had worked with those people on “Famous,” so we wanted to continue that language in a new way. The last image is foreshadowing bigger things to come, which you guys will find out about soon enough.

Frank Ocean's 'Blonde' Has Already Been Illegally Downloaded Over 750,000 Times

frank ocean blonde illegal downloads

One of the most obvious side effects of the music industry’s reliance on exclusives for retailers and streaming platforms is that it tends to make illegal downloads of those works skyrocket. Case in point: Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo. Originally a TIDAL exclusive when it debuted back in February, Yeezy’s latest LP pushed Jay Z’s streaming music service to the top spot on Apple’s App Store and was streamed over 250 million times in its first ten days of availability. Before it hit other platforms in April, however, it was illegally downloaded over half a million times — that just in the first 24 hours of its release. Pablo may have drastically increased TIDAL’s subscriber base, but it drove a ton of traffic to torrent websites, too.
Frank Ocean’s Blonde is getting similar treatment from listeners. According toMusic Business Worldwide, data shared by “piracy audience reconnection specialist” MUSO shows that the Apple Music exclusive had been illegally downloaded 753,849 times as of 12 p.m. in the United Kingdom on August 25. Since Blonde was released August 20, that means that those illegal downloads came in less than a week’s time.
So does this mean Universal Music Group is getting the last laugh (UMG has reportedly banned its artists from exclusive music deals after Ocean supposedly released the Tom Sachs-led Endless as a way of fulfilling his UMG contract, thus making Blonde an independent, non-Def Jam release)? Well, not exactly: despite all of the illegal downloads, Ocean’s LP is expected to top the charts in both the United States and UK for the week ending August 25.
Those legal, chart-topping sales figures, though? Between 225,000 and 250,000 equivalent album units — less than a third of those aforementioned 753,849 pirated downloads.

The two haven’t provided an updated drop date, but we can assume it must be very close. Check out Mike Dean’s tweets below.

Kanye West Aplogized to Nike CEO Mark Parker in Front of a Packed out Arena

Kanye West Live

Kanye West kicked off his much-awaited Saint Pablo tour in Indiana to an absolute buzz of over zealous fans. Aside from the bright lights of the stage and the energetic renditions from his famed catalog, Ye took a moment to get some controversial matters off his chest. Manning up and apologizing to Nike CEO Mark Parker, Mr. West had this to say, “I’d like to thank you Mark Parker of Nike. For giving a kid from Chicago a chance. I apologize like a man for anything I ever did to you or your family. Like to apologize like a man.” Not stopping there, Kanye also took a brief moment to salute his new boss, adidas Entertainment Marketing Director Jon Wexler in saying, “Thanks Jon Wexler for putting your job on the line for me.”
