Kevin Durant’s playoff-tuned KD8 Elite hasn’t even made its way to shelves, but Nike has already unveiled its followup, taking to its Innovation Summit today to unveil the Air Zoom KD9. Once again designed by Leo Chang, the KD9 is a direct response to Durant’s versatility and nearly four miles per game of court coverage — which translates to 15 marathons over the course of the season. The result? Nike’s most advanced Flyknit construction and Zoom Air technology to date.
The low-cut KD9 employs Flyknit construction throughout for lightweight, breathable support and sports a distinct honeycomb knit across the entirety of the forefoot for multidimensional strength — perfect for KD’s lateral quickness. Below, a minimized midsole (complete with articulated anatomical flex grooves) brings the foot as close to the Zoom Air cushioning as possible — represented in this case by a tapered unit that runs toe to heel and one that’s tuned to provide maximum impact protection.
Look for the KD9 to launch June 20 worldwide.
