Since its debut in 1983, Hajime Sorayama’s Sexy Robot has undoubtedly been the award-winning artist’s most iconic series, gracing the likes of a standing model,Stussy tees and even a pair of British Knights — not to mention our very own Pen & Paper series. Now Sexy Robot is getting some additions thanks to a brand new exhibition. Taking cues from Marilyn Monroe, “An Actress Is Not a Machine, but They Treat You Like a Machine.” features 10 new portrait paintings of the iconic actress — in robot form, naturally — along with three-dimensional works that include life-size and 1/3 scale takes on the original Sexy Robot.
“An actress is not a machine, but they treat you like a machine.” opened January 30 and will remain on display through March 5 at Tokyo’s NANZUKA.
