In this, our latest edition of special custom sneaker releases, we take a closer look at some brand new entries using a selection of classic silhouettes set as the backdrop canvas. With the sky-rocketing popularity of the adidas NMD and YEEZY BOOST 350 respectively, we are treated to some creative renditions of each in a wide assortment of color schemes, patterned prints and textile choices, amongst others. With a handful of cool concept collaborations involving such names as BAPE, Supreme and CDG, a few notable surprises also grace our list, contributing to this well-rounded assembly of custom creations.
Malcolm Garret BAPE NMD
Already one of the most in-demand silhouettes of the past 12 months, up-and-coming custom sneaker artist Malcolm Garret revisits the acclaimed partnership between adidas and BAPE with his very own creative rework. Garret reimagines the NMD XR1 “Duck Camo” silhouette by applying both the BAPESTA and AAPE logos in a bold orange tint to coincide with the equally eye-catching heel tab.
HUYCUSTOMS BAPE UltraBOOST
HUYCUSTOMS takes the Three Stripes’ beloved UltraBOOST 3.0 silhouette and applies BAPE’s trademark camo print. Sitting atop a clean white BOOST sole system is a cream-hued base unit with the unmistakable military-inspired pattern.
Kendra’s Customs Fear of God x adidas NMD
Drawing inspiration from Pharell’s Hu NMD, Kendra’s Customs applies the Fear of God name front and center, while FOG branding sits atop the adidas emblem on the tongue area. Sporting a clean black and white color scheme, this bespoke rendition proves a simple, yet stylistic rework.
US_8CUSTOM YEEZY X CDG
China-based customizers US_8CUSTOM reimagines a triple black version of the YEEZY BOOST 350 by splashing the side panel with the COMME des GARÇONS logo. CDG’s PLAY logo landing on the white strip adds a complimentary contrast to the tonal finish.
xpLicit Dezigns YEEZY Sliders
Not quite sneakers, yet eye-catching all the same are these sliders form xpLicit Dezigns. Sitting atop what look to be a BOOST sole system, textile material taken from the famed YEEZY silhouette make up the main strap unit.
The Shoe Surgeon Fragment Design x Air Jordan 1
Upping the luxury factor on the heavily-hyped fragment design x AJ1 silhouette is the “Electric Blue” gator leather hitting the heel region. The Shoe Surgeon creatively mixes in the gator skin finish with the black tumbled leather and the clean white side panel area.
Sota Customs Supreme x adidas NMD
Merging two of the biggest names in mainstream streetwear, Sota Customs brings together Supreme and adidas in this artistic custom collaboration. Sporting a bright red color scheme, the Supreme logo is placed front and center on a pair of NMDs.
Kickasso ‘Saved by the Bell’ NMD
Throwing it back to the 90s, Kickasso evokes a certain sense of nostalgia by drawing inspiration from the theme song to the hit show Saved by the Bell. Splashes of colorful graffiti art make its way onto a pair of BOOST NMDs.
FRE Customs “Cherry Blossom” YEEZY BOOST
Reaching for a pair of YEEZY BOOST 350s, FRE Customs livens up its subtle appeal by placing pink cherry blossom designs all along the side panel. The artistic embroidery appliqués add a cool color contrast to the textured grey finish.
Sean Flores Acid Vans
Artist Sean Flores reinterprets a pair of hi-top Vans by creating a psychedelic acid effect and placing it onto the OG classic shoe. The colorful clash of tones does well to stand out against the clean white sole unit and laces.
